Aware that the Government of Uganda intends to implement a comprehensive IRS program for malaria vector control through the US President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) in the districts of Kitgum, Lamwo, Pader, Agago, Apac, Kole, Oyam, Gulu, Amuru and Nwoya  as seen in the links below;-

And bearing in mind of the fact that the real stories from those who are close to the PMI-Uganda IRS project reveal a high possibility of using DDT silently, Biovision has given UNETMAC  a small funding of USD$20,000 to strengthen policy support for a phase-out of DDT at national, regional and international level through the promotion of  the use of safe, effective and environmentally friendly malaria vector control initiatives.

Among other activities, UNETMAC will use this support to assess the malaria situation in atleast five of the above districts,  sensitize local communities on how to prevent and control malaria using safe, effective and environmentally friendly approaches , devise means to rejuvenate the DDT court case, participate at the ordinary and simultaneous extraordinary meetings of the Conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions in Geneva, Switzerland from 28 April to 10 May 2013 as well as participate at the 66th World Health Assembly also taking place in Geneva from the 20th -28th May, 2013.  

Biovision also separately supported the Secretary General of UNETMAC to participate at the Global Policy Round Table on the use of DDT in Malaria Vector control which took place in Geneva from 19th-20th, March, 2013 and was organized by the Biovision Foundation and the Millennium Institute in association with the UNEP Chemicals and the Global Alliance for DDT Alternatives.
